Men's perversity is very great; does he not seem to be going back instead of advancing, at least, as regards morality? “You are mistaken. look at the human race as a whole, and you will see that it is advancing; for it has arrived at a clearer perception of what is evil, and every day witnesses the reform of some abuse. The excess of evil is required to show you the necessity of good and of reforms", Spirits' Book, Question 785 (1).
The recent developments that are taking place in our beloved planet Earth are difficult to understand if we do not review the historical and spiritual perspectives behind these events.
Terrorism is a relatively new term in our vocabulary and means an action that is designed to cause terror and/or intimidate in the pursuit of political aims (Oxford English Dictionary). Unfortunately, terror and intimidation have been part of human history as we briefly reviewed in our previous article at the Spiritist Magazine (2). When Allan Kardec asks about the perversity of human actions, the spirits explain that we are collectively evolving but some recalcitrant spirits may show their excess of evil serving a double objective: Have one more chance to evolve and continue the evolution in this world and bring all of us to an understanding that we need more love, charity and transformation. In 1938, Emmanuel describes in the book “On the way to the Light” (3) that a new meeting of the enlightened spirits would occur to discuss the next steps of our planetary evolution (transition).
Obviously, a comprehensive assessment of the evolution of humankind would conclude that we completely misunderstood the concepts brought by Jesus and were constantly choosing bellicosity over dialogue and peace. Chico later describes that the meeting occurred in 1969 and the transition into a world of regeneration was discussed (4). Jesus, as the loving governor of our planet granted us a 50-year moratorium on the application of the Law of cause and effect associated with our past misbehaviours (globally). All elevated spirits present at the meeting have reaffirmed the efforts to complete our planetary transition as planned. There was only one condition for this to happen: We would have to avoid another world war at all costs and developed and responsible nations would have to learn to cooperate and help one another, respecting differences, and refraining from launching a nuclear war.
We are once again building up tensions internationally that are putting to the test our commitment to avoid another world war and once and for all cooperate to eradicate terrorism instead of propagating more terror disguised as acts of “help”. We are seeing a dangerous polarization of the current Middle East conflict and escalation of violence in the region (5).
We can create a hypothetical scenario to illustrate today’s situation: Imagine that numerous individuals were massacred during the history of our society because of their faith, including Muslims, Jews, Christians and others. These spirits woke up in the spiritual world embedded in pain, hate and revenge; and may have continued nourishing their evil thoughts in the spiritual realm. Some of these spirits were able to forgive and rescue their debts through many incarnations and intense inner transformation. Unfortunately, many others were not able to break free from their selfishness and are now reincarnating in a last attempt to change. These hardened spirits bring that hate and apparent evil into their soul (consciously or unconsciously) and may incarnate anywhere in the world, hence the fact that many of them are hearing the call from terrorist groups and joining their ranks in terror despite living in developed and healthy environments. While some groups of spirits have been in the spiritual world for thousands of years and are now incarnating again bringing back the same level of barbarity that they used to display in the early stages of human evolution others are incarnating with the seeds of religious intolerance embedded deeply into their souls and are showing it everywhere, including North America. This hypothetical explanation is a very simplistic model for the current complex scenario we live in but may be extremely relevant to understanding the bottom line: It is time for us to put into practice what Jesus has been teaching us for a long time – Love one another!
The planetary transition is indeed a turbulent time before the process of transition is completed (6) and as the Spirits wisely teach us, we are being collectively tested to resist the temptation of joining the wave of hate. We are coming to the end of the 50-year cycle described by Chico Xavier similar to a high school student who failed his mid-term exams did not study well when he had a chance and is desperately trying to finish his final exams. We only have a few minutes to get all the answers correctly but borrowing the famous slogan from President Obama: Yes, we can! Let us be the beacon of goodness in the cloud of hate. This is our last hour (7): Eliminate any hate and intolerance from your actions and thoughts; Reach out to others in your community; support refugees and let us pray for peace once and for all.
